Druid, a role, not a religion

I got into my chosen path while in my early 20's. I didn't understand what Druids actually were in the Iron Age. I liked the concept of Druid. Of course that concept that I had back then was shaped by what I knew of them at the time. Which wasn't much.

But with many LONG hours of research I came to the realization that what the Druids of the modern world were was just pale imitations (and not flattering ones at that) of our Iron Age counterparts. Like I started to realize that Druid groups and… Continue

The Druid Warrior

Recently on the Druid Wisdom Exchange, a fellow Druid responded that Druids must be pacifist, for the most part proclaiming that the ancient Celts were noble warriors, but the past is the past, and there were essentiallly no nobility or right in being a warrior today. This was a part of my response, slightly changed as I add it here for comment.

The Celts were a class society, basically triune: warrior class that ruled, worker class that farmed and crafted, and intellectual class- the Druids, a… Continue

If God is Within Us ...

I was reading Bernard Cornwell's The Archer's Tale - part of his Grail Quest storyline, and he makes a statement about the Cathars that made me stop for a moment and think about why the Catholic and other organized churches tend to regard Druidry and some eastern cultural thoughts as heresy.

Brother Germain said. "The Cathars rejected the church, looking for salvation within their own dark souls. What would become of the Church if we all did that? If we all pursued our own whims? If God is with… Continue

The Dragon & Oak Meditation Challenge

"Try making a commitment to getting into the meditation posture at least once a day. You don't have to sit for any particular length of time, just get on the cushion. A lot of times, the hardest part is getting there. Once you're sitting down, you think, 'I might as well sit for a few minutes,' and more often than not, you're getting full sessions in." –Insight Meditation Society co-founder Joseph Goldstein

A Request for one-sided Peace on the Druid Wisdom Exchange !

Perhaps I am too old or conservative, but I worry when petitions that have no 3 realms validity become the status quo that I as a Druid must uphold. The Middle East issue is a tragic struggle whichever way you review it but calling for a cease fire by the Isrealites without dealing with the Palestinian issues is futile. There will never be a Palestinian state that consists of Gaza and the West Bank. Such an event would enhance the belief of the Palestinian minority that eventually they will have… Continue
